The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) along with Hope Now, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have launched together a formal plan of attack for mortgage modification. The Streamlined Modification Program, also known as SMP, was rolled out this past Monday and is said to have already shown progress toward foreclosure prevention. The goal of this program is not to squeeze every penny out of the already struggling homeowner, but instead to see to it that through loan modification a San Diego homeowner may stay just that, a homeowner.
