Ever wished you could make your San Diego home Solar Powered but the cost kept you away? Well San Diego homeowners are getting closer to having their “green” wishes granted. Mayor Jerry Sanders has proposed the outline for one of the nation’s most progressive solar power assistance programs. A Solar Law passed by the state in July will allow for homeowners to use their property tax bills to pay for their solar powered improvements. The payments would span out over a twenty year period, essentially becoming the new “utility” bill for the homeowner.

Along with the state assistance, starting next January the federal government will remove the previous tax credit cap of $2,000, and allow up to 30 percent of a tax credit for all solar powered residential improvements!

Solar panels commonly cost approximately $25,000 for a single-family residence, the new proposed program in combination with the federal tax credit would allow San Diego homeowners to afford to live “green” as well as save a lot more “green” each month on their utility bills!
